In 2007 MVVS
introduced a new range of electric motors. As with many of their innovations
with engines, MVVS came up with another unique design feature, the IN/OUT-runner. This is basically an
out-runner motor inside a casing, which means that the rotating magnets and
shaft are supported by high-quality ball races at either end of the casing. The
controller is connected by means of gold-plated 3,5
mm. bullet connectors mounted on the rear plate. This configuration makes for a
slim-line design, and is particularly suited to gliders with their narrow
noses, and where you don’t want wires to get in the way of the rotating drum
etc. The Sport versions have integral fans which really help to keep the
operating efficiency very high. These are extremely smooth running motors.
The drive shafts are precision ground from
high-tensile steel and is dynamically balanced together with the
rotating magnet cylinder. All of these features make these high-performance MVVS electric motors very smooth
running. Unlike many other motors, all the spare parts are readily available.
In 2008, MVVS introduced some smaller motors of the same
design, plus two new more conventional out-runners. The first numbers in the
model number designates the rough equivalent of an internal combustion engine,
and the number after the slash, refers to the KV, or rpm per volt. e.g. 4,6/840 refers
to a motor that could replace a 4.6 cc (.28) engine, and has an rpm/volt rating
of 840.

In 2008, MVVS
released some new, more conventional out-runner motors to replace the .40 and
.49 glow engines (see #2066 and #2077 below). I must say that the MVVS equivalent ratings are very
conservative, because all of the rated motors will out-perform the stated size
of glow engine. I replaced the .49 glow in my R/C Hanger 9 Twist 40 model with
the model 8,0/680 motor, and it swings a 15 x 8 prop! Using a 4-cell lipo battery, the 2.2 kg.
model goes vertical straight out of my hand like it’s
powered by a .60 on steroids! The picture below shows a standard APC 14 x 8 prop, because I broke the 15 x 8, when I bounced the landing
in strong wind.
The motor comes complete with rear mounting plates and even
a decent quality prop driver, plus the Allen keys to mount it.
